Originally the anime was supposed to be MMO which typically tends to have lack luster plot from my experience but with Fate, they had a great and innovative idea with 7 servant factions and a setting outside of Japan. The characters were alright but there were great ones like Astolofo, Mordred, etc. Sieg would my favorite character but the anime didn't do his character great and FGO reconciled it with their own event but they could've worked on it more since it's a Fate tittle. For fans or new comers wanting to try this tittle out, it is dissuading from what others say but I'd say it's best off to watch Fate\Zero or Unlimited Blade Works first. I personally enjoyed it, but it doesn't come off without flaws with having to re-watch it to be stale.
