Certainly the clever and very unusual way to bring this marvellous mix of literature, visual and performing art in several steps and at first a part only in chronological disorder to the public caused a lot more of confusion and misunderstanding the show itself is already providing. Together with some details I heard about the announcements and advertising prior the airing in 2009 I would even go so far to accept this all as part of the performance and using such ordinary tools in this way deserves respect.
So for once and all: Haruhi Suzumiya no Yuutsu is one single anime. We dont have any reason for a separation of the later produced parts. And to state that also clearly, the very special level of quality is hold entirely through.

Base of the series is a number of illustrated novels. Just the script and through the illustrations the characterdesign is given. To create from this an anime a lot of visual art is requested to get the characters alive in a proper surrounding and not smaller is the importance of the contributions of actors, musicians and sound artists.
The result here finally came to the screans in 2009 is what I am forced to call outstanding.
The way the studio delivered an extremely rich and carefully executed animation, with an entirely beautiful, thoughtful backgroundsetting, a voice acting so carefully modified, sound and music always according the quality level and dramatic requirements ... this all of a piece, never in any way loosing the balance and the focus for the whole - great!
To create it was surely a great fun for all involved and this passion can be felt all over.
In anime no hot day was stickier than here, no nameless sister was more plausible child than Kyons, no empty shopping mall was livelier than the one tortured by the movie crew, no bottle had a greater presence than the one thrown away by kyon during the cultural festival, and, and, and...
And so the unbelievable story lackadaisical Kyon Kun is telling us is unavoidable confronted with not less than the opulence of the pulsing world and not just with an alian, a time travaller and an esper. Of course... thanks to Haruhi ...
