When I first heard of this film, I was excited and worried--the latter because Code Geass already had a conclusive ending so story-wise the movie must add something new to the table in order to make it work. Lelouch the Resurrection wasn't exactly able to do that, but not for the reasons you might think.

I gave the film a high score for two reasons. The first was despite its flaws I really enjoyed the film as a Code Geass fan. The performances were excellent and the production value was no doubt excellent.

The second reason was that despite being a rushed film, it seemed to actually possess really interesting ideas that would've been more impactful if Lelouch the Resurrection is a season 3 instead of a movie. The antagonists would have been interesting foils to Lelouch and Nunnally, and it would've been interesting to see more on the ramifications of war and overthrowing a governmental body. While Lelouch's resurrection may or may not ruin the sacrifices he made in the anime, the film seem to intend to use that as a discussion point but time constraints made it barely there. For instance, Lelouch was so focused on saving Nunally (again) that there wasn't time for him to reflect on his feelings of living again. What is it like to be alive, but not like a normal person?

Though my nitpick is that the film never really addressed Lelouch's new mark which is the same as CC. It implied that he got the code, but not quite since he was still influenced by the Geass of others and he still had his. He never got the opportunity to nearly die so whether or not he has immortality or whatnot was never confirmed.

Overall, I enjoy the film despite its flaws. Though I prefer the anime more and I suggest you don't put your hopes up when watching this film.
