Now you may be wondering why I rate this so low overall when I have every facet above average. And that is because this show does not do what it thinks it does, and is very hypocritical. What is great about the show is that, while many anime glorify depression, and the "shut-in" lifestyle, this one does not. It takes a very realistic approach to how depression actually weighs on someone. But it is this realism that is it's very downfall. It tries to set an example for real people, who are struggling the same way these characters are, that things can get better, and that life is worth living. But the portrayal of this "better" is what breaks this show. Their lives get "better" (not really) because they are dependent on each other. It glorifies co-dependency, and unhealthy relationships. And you may argue that this is the point of the show; that while things aren't perfect, they still work. And that is a completely valid argument. However, relationships like do not in fact work. Their relationship is not mutually beneficial, it is mutually parasitic. And in the same way that NHK is critical of shows that glorify depression, this show glorifies (wow say glorify one more time will you) abuse. But putting all of this aside, this is definitely a show that is worth watching.
