The reason I got into this show was because I liked the idea of someone out of the blue finding out that they are the king of the demons. I like supernatural/fantasy elements and I like them to be grounded in a setting that isn't always hardcore action. Finally, the show has to have an evolving plot. In that sense Kyo Kara Maoh is extremely good. King Yuuri's power is a show stopper, and they don't pump you full of action all the time.

I also have some friends who like the show for what I would consider the second good reason to get into the show, the humor. If you like running gags and awkward with a lot of shounen-ai comedy thrown in, then you will probably laugh a lot at Kyo Kara Maoh. I personally can't stand any of that, but I just fast-forward when I see those scenes coming.

As far as quality goes the show has its ups and downs. The show wraps up all its loose ends pretty well considering my standards. As you watch a show, certain questions come up and you wonder what the origin of this antagonist is, Kyo Kara Maoh actually explains them all pretty thoroughly compared to other animes.

My problem with the quality stems down to the japanese anime philosophy that no one is evil and no one should be punished. I grit my teeth a lot of the time watching as yuri constantly says release him, let him go, etc regardless of the persons crimes. That and the extent to which yuri will go to for a peaceful resolution. Its one of those shows where you will literally choke on the sap.

Overall there are a lot of conflicting reasons to watch the show. I don't think that any one person will be completely happy with this show.
