A show overlooked due to its popularity and not looked at for what it is. A lot of people see the isekai genre and instantly their expectations are low, and expect a generic fantasy show to unfold in front of them.
Re Zero is not that. Re zero breaks down the generic isekai and flips it around, giving us a weak, impulsive main character. To me, the character of Subaru is one of the best aspects of this series, and the reason a lot of people may find him annoying, or just dislike him entirely is because how real he actually is. He messes up, he is weak, and he handles things differently than your normal protagonist. In my opinion, he is one of the greatest written main characters I've ever seen. lacking any useful abilities, relying on the people of this new world, breaking down and taking it out on others.
All at the same time, he is cool in his own way, and finds his own solutions to handling the walls in front of him.
It's very hard to write about this show without going into spoilers, but the story is by far one of the most engaging ones I've had the privilege to watch, keeping you on your seat each episode, making you wonder what you just saw. Sometimes you may find yourself rooting for one character or the other, but all the same, you want to see Subaru figure out how to beat this.
