review summary: Basically Evangelion+Code Geass+ The Odyssey

Going into the show I was expecting something and what I was expecting wasn't this. I watched the first two episodes and thought that all the 3 and 4 ratings make sense, the story felt rushed like they had an idea of where the finish line was but didn't know the proper way to get there. On top of that the characters felt two dimensional and one last grievance that many people have expressed is the sometimes over the top fan service. And that was just in the first two episodes there were obviously so many inspirations that have been drawn upon I saw elements of Neon Genesis, Code Geass, and even God Eater now this isn't outright bad but in this it seems poorly stiched together and the message that the anime wants to leave you with feels very all over the place. Now by this point you think that my above rating was an accident you would be wrong. Many reviews called this a show for the lowest common denominator and in that case I am part of that group. Going into this I really wanted to hate it but I just could not help watching on I finished the series in the span of about 13 hours because I couldn't help investing myself into this souless adaptation. The characters became more likeable as the story progressed and while the turmoil they were put through was incredible in scale it somehow felt relatable and very real. The stroy structure of this anime felt a lot like the odyssey we saw the coflict unfold, the heroes fall, and his redemption and that strory formula while seeming dated for many other storys seems inexplicably new and interesting. While the story dosen't have as much to say as evangelion, or dosen't explore as many concepts as Code Geass and finally it definetly isn't as well written as the odyssey I liked it.
