Let's get the unavoidable out of the way: this was not the best. The story was way too fast paced and cobbled together. The story was filled to the brim with every hero cliche imaginable. The characters were quite bland and predictable. Many plot points were pulled out of several different asses.
That said, there is a reason for this. Apparently this was supposed to be a full fledged anime series, with the first 22 minutes (the best part) supposedly meant to be the first episode. However, for some reason the whole thing was scrapped, and someone had the bright idea to cram all of the work already done to create this Frankenstein of a film. For getting this far, I suppose it deserves some credit.
All in all, the whole thing isn't that bad per se... For young children or those who haven't watched a lot of shounen, this might even come across as a fresh and exciting new concept. However, for many seasoned anime viewers, this left a lot to be desired, which is a shame because the art and sound were actually not bad. I wish I could have seen it in its full glory as a well developed anime instead of this hollow shell.
