What i liked about Ga-rei: Zero is that every episode has something releavant going on. There have been numerous animes that go about wasting episodes on pointless drama that does not add to the story but this does not happen in Ga-rei: Zero. I always think this when watching an anime: What is your point? Ga-rei:Zero doesn't disappoint; its short and bitter(because of the sadness in the story).

My only gripe with this anime is that the first episode had me confused on what the show was about. It seemed to me that it was someone else, not Kagura and Yomi, who was the main character.

Nevertheless, depsite it being all supernatural, Ga-rei: Zero felt realistic. Sadness, indecision, greed, envy and ,of course, love and sacrifice.
It was not simply about killing evil spirits through the routine gain power when in a crisis format but how the spiritual premise of the anime added to the story.

Aa a prequel it was very good in my opinion. It gave enough room for the characters to grow further and left us a little teaser for the sequel. Personally though, i didn't like that they aired Ga-rei: Zero first. The juicy little details about Kagura's and Yomi's relationship that was scaattered across the manga made it all the more better. I felt that showing the lead up to the start of the manga would dampened the excitement of watching the sequel. After all, I wouldn't want to go "oh i knew that already because they told me that in the prequel"
