Mixed Feelings
Ok, so the anime has ended, but the manga still continues, thought there have been a lot of recommendations for this anime none has come close. The closest that can be a good recommendation for this anime is the US TV series "Walking Dead" at FX channel and the 2004 movie "Dawn of the dead," let's face it, there is just no anime nor manga to match it. Just like any zombie genre, there are no happy endings, the only endings were the main characters who were able to get away from a bad situation with the zombies, so it can only mean that the end of the world is still on going. I however do criticize the illustrator and the writer of this anime/manga for poor concept about firearms. So, a proper trivial is in order:

Frist let's tackle the firearms used by the charcters.
-The shotguns used by Takashi (Ithaca 37 and Benelli M4) has an estimated range of 110 yards, it is useful for small and fast moving targets, for military or law enforcement application it is used as a close quarter weapon. In order for him to be able to blow the heads of them living dead there should be at least a distance of 5 yards between them. This is because you would like all the buckshot to concentrated on the specific target, otherwise as the buck shots travel will spread out thus unable to effectively kill the zombie even if it get's hit. However, Takashi's first shotgun, Ithaca 37 is awkwardly drawn, this is because it is not suppose to be equip with an optic scope, the author seem to be not aware that a shotgun is a close quarter weapon that is not made for precision shooting, instead it should be fitted with either a "Red Dot" sight, holographic weapon sight, laser sight or a tactical flashlight. Also, the instruction which Kohta gave to Takashi is misleading when it comes to the recoil of the weapon, on the contrary with Takashi's body build handling the weapon's blow back is manageable unless you're Saya who's firing it.

-The AR10 with optic sight used by Kohta. The author or the illustrator can seem to distinguish the difference between an AR10 to an AR 16, this is because the AR10 is a 1950's design, it's buttstock has a brownish color while the barrel is much slimmer and smooth design while the AR 16 is a modern design, they look alike, but completely different when i comes to the material and designed of the buttstock and barrel, in fact what Kohta is holding resembles more like a M16A2 SAMAR than an AR10.

- The S&W37 Revolver used by the police, Kohta and Takashi, fact, the standard issue service pistol of the Tokyo Police Department is a Cal 37 Nambu Revolver which kinda resembles like a Colt 38 police revolver. In ep7 it is very odd for the police in the anime to use a gun which is intended as a back-up weapon rather than a primary weapon.

-M1A with Red Dot optic sight used by Rei, fired by Takashi. the gun is a semi-automatic weapon, so what the hell was the illustrator thinking by adding an extra picatinny grip below the stock receiver of the weapon? If it is an M1A then recoil won't be a problem for Rei to handle and for Takashi to fire it, however it looks more like an M14 DMR by the way Takashi used it ep8. Only assault rifles such as AR16 and AK47 can be equip with a picantinny rail grip for added control from recoil.

-Crossbow, owned by Shizuka's friend Rika Minami, never used both in the anime and manga. Not very useful to kill the walking dead. But, it's useful if they intent to save ammo if they are dealing with people who have lost it.

-Luger PO8 pistol with 32 round detachable drum, given to Saya by her mother, never used in the anime, almost used in manga. It's range is about the length of a football field.

-MP5 H&K to be used by Kohta soon in lthe manga. It is a close quarter sub machine gun, so, in order for Kohta to shoot them zombies in the head, he has to be at least 4 yards away, he should also has to put in semi automatic in order to be precise and save ammo.

If these character were to have a higher chance of survival, then the most logical thing for them to do is to head for the marina, find a boat and sail to some island to were the epidemic hasn't spread (provided that any of them knows how to sail and navigate), instead going of the airport and hope to fly to some secured area . Co'z if they can't fly out then they can sail out just like what the character from the movie "Dawn of the dead" did. But it seems that the author of this manga/anime is intent of putting theses character on a mission to look for their love ones (or what's left of them) or other encounters with the walking dead, so the question right now is, will there be a season 2 of this anime?
