[Obligatory Prerequisite Knowledge]

Since this information is relevant to any JoJo review, here are my ratings and critiques of previous JoJo parts:

Part 1: 7/10. Boring, but establishes the through-line of the JoJo vs Brando rivalry.

Part 2: 10/10. Fantastic. This part represents everything good about JoJo. Off-the-walls action, ridiculous writing, and beyond-charismatic characters.

Part 3: 5.5/10. Lame. The action is off-the-walls, but I only found half of the crusaders to be at all interesting. The scope of the story is also too large to make any individual fight feel important.

Part 4: 9/10. Nice. A much needed change of pace for the franchise. The transition from a world-spanning battle against DIO to this is somehow seamless. The characters were mostly great and it would have been a 10/10 if not for how stupid the catalyst for the ending fight was.

[Finally, Part 5]

As previously stated, JoJo's Bizarre Adventure is known for its crazy action, ridiculous writing, and charming characters. For this reason, while watching part 5, I didn't even think that I was watching JoJo.

[Action]

I can't complain about the action in this show. The 7-page-muda was pretty funny.

[Writing]

The writing in this part was ridiculous to say the least. Unfortunately, it wasn't ridiculous in a good way. Araki is generally a good writer- but as the show transitions from ORA city to a shounen mystery, his flaws become more apparent. Araki is really good at keeping people enthralled by any means necessary, even if it means compromising the integrity of the show's rules. Basically, JJBA has no consistency, and this doesn't pair well with a show that's trying to take itself seriously. But that's not the worst of it. A character succeeding by complete accident/coincidence is nothing new to the series, but a character succeeding by breaking the rules is. Araki likes to use a writing technique that I like to call the "off-screen ex-machina". Basically, in a perilous situation, a character will, unbeknownst to the audience, completely turn around a fight. This usually happens around a cut transition to leave the viewer on-edge. To be clear, this is bad writing. If your subversion lies in the fact that you didn't tell us critical knowledge in the first place, it isn't a subversion at all. There are no lines to be drawn to begin with. This happens all the time in the show and it really took away from the experience. Also, some of the tropey writing involving character breaks was annoying, but this section is long enough, so I won't elaborate any further.

[Characters]

I didn't find many of the characters to be charismatic. Bucciarati was probably my favorite character, with Giorno as a close second. Other than that, they were either a dick, a baby, a trope, or just boring. Also, Kouichi... Fucking Kouichi... AND THE OTHER GUY (no spoilers). -2 for those two dunces showing up in this season.

[Overall]

Honestly, not as good as it's hyped up to be. It isn't bad, because trust me, I've seen bad shows, but it also isn't great. It's a good-to-okay show. If you've watched the rest of the series, you'd might as well just watch this part.
