Mixed Feelings
I wanted to enjoy this one more than I actually did.

One of my friends got really into this anime after finding it online, so she tried to get all of us to give it a shot. So I did, and the result was avverage.

STORY

The story of Made In Abyss often feels all over the place. The first three episodes are rather standard looks into the world above, and they’re alright for what they are.

4 and 5 felt very repetitive, pretty much viewing the tutorial-like section. That part wasn’t very interesting to me at all, because essentially it was just Riko and Reg, who were easily the least interesting characters. 6-8 got a lot more interesting, but 9-10 were both too boring for me to sit through.

The story just didn’t really lead to an interest, at least it didn’t for me. While the lore of the Abyss was very interesting, the society they lived in felt way too disturbing for me to comprehend. At least there weren’t any rebellion stories, at least.

CHARACTERS

Riko started off alright but she continued to get more and more annoying. Reg was boring as dirt from start to finish. The weird guy from Episode 4 was just aggravating to watch. Bondrewd is NOT a sympathetic person. Nor is Lyza or the teacher person.

Nat, Malruk, and Ozen (THE BEST CHARACTERS) were abandoned after three episodes. At least Nanachi and Mitty were there to fill the void, which really says something when they only have three episodes and are more fleshed out than our protagonists.

ANIMATION + SOUND

Animation-wise, it’s pretty standard. I didn’t like the character designs all that much, but whenever the show tried to look terrifying, it looked really good, especially with scenes of Ozen.

Soundtrack wise, it wasn’t spectacular. I liked the intro, but the rest of the songs just weren’t all that interesting. I guess I liked the one that payed when Riko showed Reg the Abyss, but that was it.

Voice acting was spectacular. I can’t say much else, but it was ASTOUNDING.

ENJOYMENT

I didn’t enjoy myself much. The adventure aspect felt really forced and it didn’t go as far and beyond as I was hoping that it would go. The Abyss was interesting, but we had two bland characters and constant abuse of the good eggs.

I guess I’d recommend it, but only if you’re a diehard fan of the premise.
