Tenki no Ko (better known as Weathering with You in the English community) is a movie that follows the beloved main character - Hodaka Morishima - on a journey in Tokyo. Tenki no Ko tells a story revolved around "sunshine girls" who are rumoured to possess the ability to manipulate the weather. Hodaka meets a girl named Hina Amano (at a place we all love yet try to stray away from) McDonald's. The movie follows these two on an adventure that involves trust and tests their moral compass, courage and self-confidence when the world around them doesn't seem to believe them.

I'll stop trying to avoid spoiling things now and just move onto topics that will not risk me ruining someone's life and breaking their heart.

Tenki no Ko was a highly anticipated movie in 2019 as it was the supposed ‘Kimi no Nawa 2’. Hate to break it to you, but it's not. Although... Once you watch it, just keep an eye out my friends, if you know what I mean ;).

Whilst it is definitely not Kimi no Nawa 2, it certainly has its own attributes and has been selling tickets relatively well, if I base my assumptions on my own personal viewing of it.

Nana Mori and Kotarou Daigo are both new voice actors in the anime industry. Considering they both debuted as the main characters in this film, I am very impressed. They did not let their characters down in the slightest and showed true emotions throughout the story, I was very satisfied and I am sure many fans are looking forward to their next appearances. Soundwise, the music and soundtrack enhanced the ambience, making scenes more meaningful and never straying from the intended mood.

I mentioned before that Tenki no Ko is certainly not a Kimi no Nawa 2. This is because the story itself - although it includes fantasy aspects - is relatively well-grounded. It has a much less 'magical' focus (even considering the "sunshine girl" aspect) and the story seems more realistic, perhaps reality-based - although it’s certainly not a replica of real life. The storyline was easy to follow and I was never left confused, I could sit back and enjoy the movie without having to pull threads from multiple directions and try to tie them together in my head, which always makes viewing more enjoyable (If you didn’t sign up for mind games, that is). The animation was extremely well executed, with only a few little bumps that weren’t too noticeable (I don't think the majority of people would have noticed or been affected by it).

As for the characters, they were certainly lovable and managed to endure their doubts and hardships. Although there wasn't a noticeable amount of character development individually, they certainly developed relationship-wise - seeing themselves within and caring for others.

Overall, Tenki no Ko was a very enjoyable movie with a great storyline, beautiful art/animations and lovable characters. I hope that you will all enjoy it as much as I did, although it isn't our Kimi No Nawa 2, it is definitely an anime worth watching.
