The series follows Chihiro as the title character, the Shounen maid. Fortunately, this isn't presented in a creepy way (unless you count his weird uncle trying to sleep in the same bed as him, but it never comes off as sexual). The series follows Chihiro while he is in the process of coming to terms with his mother's death and trying to fit into his new life.
There is a diverse cast of characters. Like many manga characters, some of them only have one or two characteristics or traits that define them as people (and some could have used a bit more time for development). Chihiro, being the protagonist is the most developed character, followed by his uncle. They are usually presented as a reversed parent and child pairing, with Chihiro being the more mature one who frequently takes care of his uncle. A number of different dynamics are introduced between the characters, such as a couple characters having crushes on other people, or problems that exist between other characters. These make for interesting interactions in the short-term, but [spoiler alert] most of them are not resolved by the end of the manga. I like having loose ends tied up so this was a minus for me.
The art is reasonably well done. The character faces and expressions are all drawn well enough. I will point out that this is a manga that frequently doesn't have background settings. It's more in the style where the characters are usually in a blank space, sometimes with stars or other accentuating features in the background. There are occasional backgrounds, but they often aren't nearly as detailed as the characters. Some of the few exceptions to this are times when the homes of the characters are initially presented.
