Death Note presents a plethora of interesting and unique concepts almost entirely both designed and streamlined towards telling an interesting story.
Not much different in quality from my previously reviewed FullMetal Alchemist: Brother although implemented in drastically different ways with darker themes taking the forefront in order to take the series into a straight forward and compelling psychological thriller territory.
The focus is less about the world as a whole and doesn't so too much to separate itself from our reality through the series is far more interested in telling the story of a handful of characters and how they rival and challenge each other.
Themes also float around gothic, religious, governmental and societal issues.
The only issues this series really faces is a lack of diversity and depth in its themes and a handful of poorly handled episodes towards the end of the series.
One could also argue that the scope of the world in this series can come off as a little bit small and unrefined compared to its extremely well-written cast of characters.
