Preliminary (Unknown/10 eps)
At the risk of repeating what plenty of other people have said, I shall start by saying that easily the best thing about this anime is, of course, the character of Alucard. Impressive, powerful, and undeniably awesome, if not too deep, he is very much the thing that makes this anime worth watching.

However, he isn't exactly up against stiff competition; Seras is a constant annoyance, and an obvious ploy by the writers to squeeze in a quick human interest storyline, whilst I found that the attempt to turn Hellsing herself into a typical 'empowered woman' character fell somewhat flat. I also found myself wincing with irritation evertime she was referred to as "Sir". Edgar provides some relief, although he was far too underdeveloped, and the same goes for the plethora of "bad guy" figures, such as the Colonel and...uh...that woman with short hair, tattoos, and a scythe. See what I mean? Underdeveloped.

The storyline quickly goes from bland to completely insane, and not in a good way; I very much recieved the impression that it was more or less built around Alucard. And let's be fair; it probably was.

The art and sound, meanwhile, are more-or-less top-notch. A great musical score combined with a detailed, well-crafted visual style combine to create what could have been a very atmospheric, immersive feel, were it not for the frankly odd storyline.

This all combines to create an anime from which some enjoyment can most definitely be salvaged, in the form of some very impressive fight scenes and watching Alucard do his thing. If you enjoy gratuitous violence, then you may enjoy this. If, however, you're looking for a deep, immersive storyline then...you should probably look elsewhere.
