Suzumiya Haruhi, the anime you watch when you want a mix of slice of life and the supernatural

- This review is purely based on my opinion and will be biased
- This review will contain minor spoilers for season one and will summarize both seasons
- I watched this anime chronologically

Have you ever wished you were the center of the universe? Well, maybe you should talk back that wish because it isn't going great for our main character Kyon who plays the straight man in this world filled with the insanity of God Haruhi Suzumiya. Even though Haruhi should be the center of attention, the whole reason why Haruhi is this God is Kyon. So Kyon, Mikuru, Koizumi, and Yuki try to satisfy Haruhi so the world doesn't break.

The premise may sound intense but it actually is just a normal slice of life story most of the time, between the gang going to an island to solve a mystery to being trapped in infinite time for 8 episodes (yeah, I'll admit that it wasn't a good time for the viewers either) but even with these adventures the anime tries to keep the narrative that Haruhi is somebody special and that's what I really love about the anime it disguises itself as a typical slice of life when in reality it's something much deeper with a hidden narrative.

The verdict:
Story - 9/10
Art - 9/10
Sound - 10/10 (Subbed)
Character - 10/10
Enjoyment - 10/10
Overall - I rated Suzumiya Haruhi a 10/10. It is currently my favorite anime and is a show that I believe everybody who loves slice of life should watch.

Recommendation: If you enjoyed Suzumiya Haruhi and haven't seen the spin-off The Disappearance of Nagato Yuki-chan then you should. It's basically a romantic normal version of the supernatural show and it's just as good!
