Fifteen year old Sana returns to the town where he grew up, after spending five years away and is reunited with his childhood friends. While he finds that dorky Aoi and twins Syusuke and Syuri are much the same, the once sweet and shy Nanaka has become cold and withdrawn. He also meets a cute fellow student named Asami, and a brattish elementary school student called Hinako. All of these characters experience a certain amount of character development, with the exception of cheerful Aoi who simply remains a fun comic element throughout. The dark story lines that develop in the second half add some depth to the romantic comedy elements and don’t really jar. There’s plenty of emotion and drama, although it may be too much for some (not me, I like melodrama!) and when the plot twists aren’t predictable, they do tend a little towards the ridiculous. I was a little disappointed with the ending — while I quite liked the reveal of a certain mystery, the episode was rushed and the epilogue didn’t really seem to add anything.

Visually it has a typical anime style (complete with big eyes and unnatural hair colours and styles) but it expresses itself well, and at times the colouring is very pretty. The music is pretty good, with a catchy OP and some suitably dramatic incidental music.

If you like fanservice-filled romantic comedies and want to see something with a little more depth and seriousness, this is definitely worth a try. It doesn’t succeed in all areas, but it does have something unique about it.
