This is not a very controversial opinion, but I think that this show has been fantastic so far.
Not because it's something that I have never seen before or because it made me cry. Simply because it created a beautiful and warm story that I enjoy thoroughly.
From what I've noticed from other people's reviews the biggest complaint is that the writing is the same as they have seen in countless other live novels. Of course I can't say for sure, but that might be a problem with the perspective they have on it. I think it's one of Rascals biggest strengths that it takes tropes that we are familiar with and kind of looks at it differently.
When I saw an Idol in the opening I couldn't help but sigh. No matter how great the other characters are, I was sure that she was going to annoy me. What this show then did was to make her a very human character, with some annoying personality traits but also some good ones and I couldn't really dislike her. Which might just be me, but I tend to dislike characters that are a bit too much to handle. Must sound strange since I'm an anime fan, but a bit too much really has to be a lot. Like a character that keeps switching between being an asshole and an adorable girl every two seconds without any consequences (no offense Hanebado, but full offense). The concept of taking tropes and changing them up is a fairly simple one, but I still respect them a lot because they're not always easy to actually do. It has a simple premise and writes its story accordingly, but in a charming and well set up way.
Of course a show like that can only work when the characters work as well, which I explained worked very well for me. I am aware that opinions are split on this, with people hating and liking some characters or hating the entire cast. Personally I really like every character that has been presented so far. I mean this show made me like the perverted protagonist type and that's pretty amazing, cause god I've had it with these harem protagonists. But this one is calm, honest, but also a nice guy when it counts and, a thing that I probably like about every character in this show, he's honest with himself. He knows his personality isn't great, but also doesn't shove that in everyones face. Because there's a difference between being a bad person and quietly accepting that and walking around telling everyone what your opinion about them is. Which is most likely not a good one. Now to the bigger part of the cast, the girls. I love girls. I love boys. Would have loved more boys. But the girls in this are fantastic. Adorable, strong, weak, mysterious and charming. No I'm honestly impressed look at these girls with personalities this is a treat. Honestly I feel like I'd start spoiling things when I talk about them more so let's leave it at that, but they managed to make me absolutely fall in love with the big brother obsessed little sister character. A miracle.
I think that's all I wanted to say. Except please watch this show, it's good for your heart and soul. Especially if you're in a similar situation as the character, though I don't think you have to be to relate to them. Watching someone just not care about the opinions other students throw at him is nice, watching someone else care way too much is nice, watching someone like the way they change instead of their real self is nice, this show is just nice! It's pleasant and fun, so please give it a go.
