Nana (Anime) add (All reviews)
Mar 7, 2008
Nana brought back my joy of watching anime since I took a hiatus in watching animes from 2002 to 06.

Story - Nana is a story between two girls who shares not only the same name and age but the struggles as well. Every band musician will appreciate its story for it decipts how an old-fashioned Punk-rock band made it to the mainstream, Yes it is somewhat simillar to Beck, but Nana is different. Along with the musical journey, there is also a strong romantic plot which is the essence of this anime. This anime is humane and it could almost happen to anyone. That is for you to find out XDD

Art - The art is crisp, as expected from Madhouse. Even though there are sometimes that the drawing is somewhat off, I took a read of the manga and realized that the characters are really drawn that way, Madhouse did a good job for maintaining the original Art from Yazawa sensei's. The background is awesome most specially in the first episode, but just about in the middle of the series, it is noticable that the BG isn't that good but they did reclaim it's goodness in the later episodes of the anime.

Sound - Like I've said earlier, Nana is a good musical journey (on par with Nodame Cantabile, well that depends on the person if they like either classical or punk rock/rock.) Among the several OST's of this anime, it is noticable that Nana uses different musical crossovers from country to winter-like ballad and heart wrenching violin scores used in their BGM's. The OP/ED of this anime is a pure win Anna Tsuchiya for Blackstones and Olivia Lufkin for trapnest.. It is a huge break for Olivia and Anna for them to perform to Nana for Nana is reallly popular in Japan even though I'm not too sure if it is right now. Personally I liked Kuroi Namida and Wish the best. You know what, If you have seen Nana the movie, I would really suggest that the two (Anna and Olivia) must have taken the role of Nana and Reira, for it suits them very well (Yazawa said that they are perfect for the bands they portray in).

Character - The characters are enjoyable, their antics are soo cool and simple. The characters tend to do something cool, one episode after another. One good thing about this animes characters is that they show the flaws and egoism of humanity when it comes to love or money etc. It is painful sometimes to watch the episodes but this is the truth. Not just your typical anime wherein everything seems so vivid and bright, Nana is a good meaning for "Slice of Life".

Enjoyment - There are 47 episodes in all and I enjoyed every minute of it. I enjoyed it thoroughly since I do listen to Punk Rock. Everyone could relate to everything in this anime, that being said, Everyone would enjoy it.

Overall - Nana is a decent anime to watch, even though it is intended for girls, I myself as a guy really enjoyed Nana for I can relate to all the characters and to the story as well. Now I'm longing for season 2 *protest* XDD I'd say that why don't you try something or anything which is a slice of life today? Nana is highly recommended by yours truly, Cafekko. :)
