Elsewhere on the internet, peons are deriding Bakemonogatari for being “bland,” “uninteresting,” “boring,” and so forth.
Well, let it be known that I, at least, am not a peon!
Consider this a public service announcement: Bakemonogatari isn’t a show for the passive viewer. Anyone unwilling to think, and I mean really think, about the dialogue and characterization while watching the show likely has no business watching it in the first place.
Also, anyone ragging on Mayoi Snail for “having no action” or “being low on animation” is missing the point quite severely.
To put it another way: Things don’t need to happen for things to happen. If you can grasp the meaning of that statement, then you’ll probably do fine with Bakemonogatari.
Anyway, Shinbo is producing one of his usual masterpieces, but this time it’s on a level that the average person may not be able to appreciate. Now, don’t misunderstand me mere – there’s nothing wrong with not being able to understand the masterful writing and production behind Bakemonogatari. However, those who do not, in fact, understand it should probably refrain from commenting on it as well.
Best show this season, best show this year, best show ever…? Only time will tell on that last one, but it’s looking more and more likely with each new episode.
This has been your regular reminder of Shinbo’s (and NISIOISIN’s) brilliance. Carry on.
