Preliminary (4/12 eps)
Naria Girls is a miserable excuse for a magical girl series. The animation is absolutely appalling. Though the poster shows passable character designs for the girls, most of the show is animated with horrific CG character models that don’t work well with the background at all. The characters rarely even move significantly, standing in the same spots with different backgrounds each episode. When movement is made, it’s rigid with parts of character’s bodies often cutting through their clothes or hair. The only remotely acceptable pieces of animation were in the opening and closing sequences as well as the transformation scenes, all three of which still make season one Love Live dance numbers look like masterpieces by comparison. Characters and plot are nonexistent. Episodes primarily consist of characters standing in the same position each episode talking to one another with dialogue so boring that l could no longer follow the conversation. I'm usually fine with characters that fall into very typical anime tropes because a good plot can use those tropes to its advantage, but when characters are defined only by their trope and they have no plot to support them, the whole show just becomes a predictable mess. I’m one of those people who can enjoy horrible shows and books like Magical Girl Site and The Disappearance of Hatsune Miku and laugh at their hilarious, but passionately presented failures. No enjoyment came out of watching this. There was absolutely no effort put into this show on any level of production, and it clearly shows.
