I just finished this piece of telivision and wanted to get some of my feelings down in words. This show isn't perfect, and I actually dropped it four episodes in on my first try, but it was able to get an immense amount of emotion out of me when I decided to give it another go.

The bulk of the enjoyment out of this show comes from how it made me feel. The art is amazing, the sound is good, and direction is great. When put together, they set up perfectly when the show wants to get emotional in a few episodes. I particularly enjoyed episodes 7 and 10 for these reasons, and the other episodes from 5-11 are stellar. Everybody involved deserves a round of applause. After each of these episodes, I found myself feeling a lot of emotion, and ended up crying after several of them. I would recommend this to anybody that is even slightly inclined to this sort of thing, - you'd be missing out if you pass it up.

Even though it is worth watching, the show does have it's flaws. First, it feels a bit too episodic. It's not too much of a bad thing, but there's not really a strong overarching story - only Violet's character development. While this enables the series to have some extreme emotional moments, it hindered my engagement (hence why I dropped it my first time through). It also has some very bland and uninteresting characters. Most of the cast besides Violet herself and one episode only characters feel flat. Luckily, the one episode characters are generally amazing and help enable the high levels of emotion that happens. Lastly, the last two episodes are fine, but they definitely aren't as strong as the series middle.

As for subs vs. dubs, I'd personally recommend the dub if you are on the fence, but just go with whatever you prefer. Watching the dub allows you to devote more attention to the amazing art, which is a huge boon of the series, but the sub VA's are also good as well.

This show is definitely worth watching on the merit of how magnificently it ties it's strengths together to make the viewer feel a variety of emotions throughout. I'm glad I gave this series another try.
