With people started to like those skip the opening button just to get into the point of some anime, an anime made us realize that you should not skip the opening just to have that hype so you can stay and watch a mediocre yet predictable anime like this one. While having the source material have ended long before the adaptation as an advantage, Kokkoku, an anime adaptation of a manga created by Seita Horio, did not manage to steal many hearts to invest and drive themselves into the world of stasis.
The major flaw of Kokkoku lies in the very predictable and mediocre plot. Three episodes in and I already guessed how the ending will like. And... My prediction was not too far off. Even with this predictable plot, Kokkoku still did not manage to deliver their lore of the stones and the specters well and left me with lot of holes here and there. While I could not sense the rushy feeling inside this anime, I sensed that the timing of when they delivered the lore one by one was a bit off which kinda disappointing from my side.
While the soundtrack of this anime fits its bargain by being eerily perfect for a show with the theme of hide and seek between good, bad, and something other than that, what I should underline from this anime's sound of course its opening. I just can't stop listen that opening. This opening alone is an example of how an opening should have done : hype up the show in the beginning so people will stay and watch the show. The opening alone could be a reason why I choose to stay and watch the whole show.
To be honest, I have listened Flashback back in 2017 when it just came out (with other songs from MIYAVI's Samurai Sessions Vol. 2) and already guessed that sooner or later his name will shine in the community. If you said that "THIS OPENING IS MY JAM!", I suggest that you should listen to MIYAVI's other tracks. It's all worth it. Trust me.
While managed to sway me with MIYAVI's song as the opening, Kokkoku's story did not stand out very well and I will only say "Okay, I let it slide." just because the opening managed to keep me stay and watch all of them.
