Preliminary (6/12 eps)
Hoshiiro Girldrop came as a surprise this year. What appeared to be nothing more than a generic slice of life series actually ended up being a rather heartwarming experience.
This review may contain mild spoilers, but I won't go into detail about anything specific past the first episode.

Hoshiiro Girldrop follows the antics of our two main characters, Daichi and Sosogu. These childhood friends are reunited in a peculiar way: Sosogu just kinda moved in with Daichi.
Apparently Daichi made a promise to her long ago, but he has no recollection of this at all.

Now if I'm being honest, Daichi isn't one of the best protagonists. His character can come across as bland. His chemistry with Sosogu on the other hand makes the show, mostly because
they're the most mismatched couple possible. An old standard for romcoms, sure, but why fix what ain't broke.

All in all, if you're looking for a fun romcom/slice of life to pass the time, Hoshiiro Girldrop is definitely a show for you, but so far the show hasn't presented anything to make this a must watch.

I rate Hoshiiro Girl--- NOT!

To be fair, you have to have a very high IQ to understand Pop Team Epic. The humour is extremely subtle, and without a solid grasp of intensive psychology most of the jokes will go over a typical viewer’s head. There’s also Pipimi’s nihilistic outlook, which is deftly woven into her characterisation- her personal philosophy draws heavily from shitpost literature, for instance. The fans understand this stuff; they have the intellectual capacity to truly appreciate the depths of these jokes, to realise that they’re not just funny- they say something deep about LIFE. As a consequence people who dislike Pop Team Epic truly ARE idiots- of course they wouldn’t appreciate, for instance, the humour in Popuko’s existential catchphrase “A H ? Y O U A R E M O T H E R F * C K E R ?,” which itself is a cryptic reference to bkub’s Japanese epic Hoshiiro Girldrop. I’m smirking right now just imagining one of those addlepated simpletons scratching their heads in confusion as Okawa’s genius wit unfolds itself on their television screens. What fools.. how I pity them. 😂

And yes, by the way, i DO have a Pop Team Epic tattoo. And no, you cannot see it. It’s for the ladies’ eyes only- and even then they have to demonstrate that they’re within 5 IQ points of my own (preferably lower) beforehand. Nothin personnel kid 😎
