From the stupid faces on the mechs, the boring main character, not super likable cast of side characters, to the large amount of sex symbolism, this anime is hard to take seriously. Since this is a show that's meant to be taken seriously, you can see why that turns so many people away from the show. Heck, it even has a beach episode, a STAPLE generic filler episode. So why the heck is this show so captivating?!
You're probably expecting an answer aren't you, an explanation to all the bad things I listed? Well I don't have one, or at least not any single idea as to why. Again, I could have just said Zero Two and ended it short, but there has to be something else. Maybe it's colors, the voice acting, the hope that main character will improve even more, some sort of wild unexpected twist considering the anime will be 24 episodes long, or my love for mechs in general. Or maybe it's just Trigger? Whatever the reason, this anime is shockingly good despite how stupid it can seem.
I'm sticking with it until the end, even when things get worse.
