I think i just expected too much from this movie. Maybe it because it's one of the few i got really interested in after Koe no Katachi or Kimi no na wa. Regardless, I'm extremely disappointed.

Let me start off saying, I don't watch many anime movies. I just watched a few(3 or 4?). I also don't know much about Shaft as an animation team so here goes.

Let me begin with the reason most of us were interested in the first place. The music video from Daoko. When I was going for the premiere of the anime in Malaysia, there were many people who were hyped about the movie just from the music video. And spoiler, they were dissapointed when it only got played ONCE the entire movie and of all places, it was the end of the movie at the credits scene.

If I were to give my opinion on this movie, the story was cool, definitely interesting and unique as opposed to what we see in modern animes. I kinda got hooked to the story however, the way the story was executed was super disappointing. I felt as if it could've been way more interesting if the visuals were done nicer. The animation was really mediocre, almost like looking at an instagram photo that has 13 filters on it. I was told to not expect much out of Shaft, so I won't emphasize on this much but definitely what I felt.

I also felt like, the movie was too short. Everything just doesn't fit right. If they just put that extra effort into making it longer, it could've been great.
