Mixed Feelings
Small child and astro boy go spelunking in a hazardous chasm of death While making casual pre pubescent advances on their sexuality while playing fiddle sticks with a cute bunny rabbit ramlethal from guilty gear.

Made in abyss is what every avid anime fan that wanted a break from the seasonal monotony wanted and more. The the art style immediately catches your eye with it's hand painted vibrant backgrounds with hardly any CG-i, which makes for a very refreshing viewing experience. The best thing for me was the monsters, which if this were any other show as of late, they would be the first to be a computer generated flying fish monster plastered onto a 2d plane, but surprisingly they're all hand drawn and animated perfectly blending the monsters into the world they reside in, making the abyss feel very alive.

Cave diving is cool man. And seeing it get the anime makes everything more badass treatment, among other things really piqued my interest for this show. We follow the story of riko a 12 year old girl who loves cooking cave diving and concerning herself with her friends special places. She is accompanied by a tantalizing tin boy named reg who can extend his awesome robot arms and shoot lasers from his hand like iron man, and together they embark on a journey to the bottem of the abyss because riko feels like she is "drawn" to it.

Now keep in mind, nobody has ever reached the bottom of this chasm, not even full grown adults with years of cave diving and superhuman strength. But that's okay because luckily her half metal companion reg can safely help her descend the abyss with his grapply arms. but aside from the laser beam that puts him in a sleep for 2 hours. He has a hard time fighting off the abyss creatures on the 2nd layer. How will they handle the dangers of the next few layers? Well monsters.... don't really show up afterward.... shit
They even pull out a big ol' map at the start of the show and how each layer has stronger monsters than the last and given' how much they hyped up up each area I feel like they haven't had as much conflict as you would expect after hearing how dangerous the abyss gets. I feel as how big of a world the creators made that they would flesh out each area much more and give more opportunity for the protagonists to adapt and get stronger with each descent, but instead they conquered layer after layer with little to no problem at all whereas with the most black whistle explorers it would be close to suicide.
Going into the first episode I couldn't help but feel excited yet scared for riko to go on this journey. This show does a great job from the get go to get invested into the main characters and their friends at the orphanage to which riko grew up with and that emotional moment where riko leaves her friends( probably for the last time) left me in tears and actually care for the fates of these two main characters. Then there is suffering. You love suffering right? course you do! You've seen shingeki no kyojin! Now very edgy messed up scenes are hard to pull of without being forced and this show was no exception. The scene where riko get's poisoned by the orby creature and reg is forced to saw off her arm while she's brutally bleeding out of her eyeballs really only felt like a forced shock value scene more than anything given the drawn out nature of the whole thing. Like "Look!!! she's dying. now she's dying even harder!!! man reg is taking a LONG time to saw her arm off O SHIT YOU'RE ALREADY HALFWAY THROUGH FINISH THE JOB. oh... well now she's just bleeding and crying in pain and hallucinating. Well ain't that some shit.
This show's also got these weird undertones of sexuality towards kids. Riko likes to talk about reg's human chin chin despite them all being twelve year olds. One of the white whistles has a maid that... is a young trap character that riko and reg become intimate friends with... uhhh.. reg blushing because he has to wash the urine off the rico's clothing because well... she was dying and all..man this twelve year old girl took nearly exploding her entrails from the inside real well without having a mental breakdown or anything like that. The story with the bunny girl and mitty during their time with daddy daft punk was pretty sad... also reg popped an erection, and riko enjoyed it. the bunny is a pervert. and well, I guess that's my experience with this.

The music was really good.
