When I heard about the spin-off of Barakamon about Handa-sensei's high school career, I thought it sounded really lame and put off watching it for quite a while.
When I finally got around to watching it, it seemed... really lame! I thought the first episode (or at least, the first half of it) was weird and not funny at all. I had low expectations for the show and it seemed like those expectations were going to be accurate.
After watching a few episodes, though, I started to enjoy the humor of it. Handa's character was really funny and cute to me. The characters around him (the Handa Force) were definitely a stretch and a little cringe-y, but I got used to them and they were okay. I liked Yukio a lot.
I ended up laughing a lot from the show, in the end. I think if you end up basing your judgement of it by Barakamon, you won't enjoy it, but if you have an open mind, you might. In the end, it was kind of lame, in the way that a bad pun is lame. But I enjoyed it for that.
