Fune wo amu literally translates to "the great passage" and is based on a best selling Novel. The Novel written by Shion Miura got a film adaption in 2013 and was a spectacle to behold. The film has won many awards including Japans picture of the year. The story follows Mitsuya Majime who comes from Tokyo and is an unsuccessful salesman in a publishing company (timid and shy person). Majime meets two editors the first being Masashi Nishioka who is a dictionary editor and after an incident teaches Majime a basic sales rule. Nishioka is shocked at the way Majime composes himself giving out direct definitions of how he would stipulate words are. The second editor Majime meets is Kouhei Araki who is seeking a replacement for himself as his wife is ill. Araki is trying to find someone who is learned and has a passion for words in order for them to complete a new dictionary, the "Daitokai" (The Great Passage). Majime then becomes apart of the team to compose this new dictionary at work. Back at home Majime meets Kaguya Hayashi who is a relative of the land lady he's renting the place off. Majime is captivated by her beauty only to be challenged by chief editor Matsumoto to define the word "love." Follow the unique story of a man who literally sees "words" while also seeing a relationship bloom between himself and Kaguya.

After watching the film a year or so back I can safely say that if the anime follows the book and film and was a beautiful piece to watch. This show has its own original concepts and may appeal to only a few. I don't recommend it to newcomers.
