Yes, this is a guilty pleasure anime for me, and I despise most ecchi anime with a passion. So why is this any different? Well, to me, this doesn't just seem like a corporate sex appeal product marketed at lonely otakus, it actually has some heart to it. The characters are very likable, especially Hirano Kouta, who manages to make being a fat gun nerd badass. The relationships between the characters feel genuine, and there is some really good comedy that arises from their interactions. So although the character's are not exactly something out of Shakespeare, they are good enough to carry the show and make me want everyone to escape the situation unharmed.
The show also boasts some absolutely great art and fluid, graceful animation. The fights against the zombies are very cathartic to watch, both the brawls and the gunfire. These fights are complemented by a fast paced OST which gets the adrenaline and hype levels high. The OP song is also extremely catchy.
The ecchi elements of the show are most definitely... there. If you don't like any form of fanservice or ecchi, this show won't be for you, as it is very in your face. Now, I don't like out of place fanservice, but this is an ecchi, and it is not out of place. This show is pure male fantasy of violence and boobs, and I am a-ok with that. The fanservice isn't tasteful, but I liked it, and I am aware of how perverted that makes me look. I just can't understand all the hate for it, did people really go into a show tagged "ecchi" thinking there wouldn't be any boobs? And other people seemed disappointing at a lack of sex- you guys do know what ecchi is, right? Sure, we all wanted to see a little more than just boobs, but at least when a show is tagged ecchi, you should know not to get your hopes up.
Now, is the series perfect? By no means. Some characters can just be plain annoying, like that teacher guy who forms a cult, and Takagi with her incessant whining. The most unfortunate thing is that the death of the mangaka (rest in peace), will mean that no resolution to this plot will ever be made. And that sucks.
Overall, I give it an 8/10- it's a fun, guilty pleasure anime with lots of testosterone power, so I recommend to anyone wanting a fast and furious action anime that also has good comedy.
