If you've read the synopsis you've probably come to the conclusion that this isn't another romance anime with a lot of fluff, cute characters, dream like confessions that anime of this genre usually consists of. Kuzu no Honkai is heavy, all the characters screw up, none of them are "good people" and you'll probably want to slam your head into the closest wall watching them.

Then why should you watch it?

It gives a different take on "romance". Betrayal, unrequited love, cheating. It's so raw that despite hating what the characters do you can't completely condemn them for it since this actually happens in real life too. Though I won't call it completely realistic since it does make the drama over the top, one can't ignore that these characters are so very human with backgrounds that explain every choice they make resonate so soundly with who they are and what they are looking for.

Kuzu no Honkai or "Scums wish" is not an anime for everyone but if you want a different view on romance, one who doesn't shy away from showing the ugly sides of it and how far human desire for love will take a person, this is definitely something for you.




I for once had a difficult time watching it without my blood boiling but won't deny its brilliant execution.
