As someone who's already reading Light Novels such as Overlord and The Legendary Moonlight Sculptor, the core concept of the 'people in a MMORPG' isn't new. However, sometimes all you need is a tried and tested formula which has been executed well and in that regard Log Horizon is a great show to watch.

The one aspect which sets this show apart from contemporaries like Overlord is how it handles the 'MMO' part of the MMORPG setting. Game mechanics, their consequences and their effect on not just combat but also the world in general has been well thought out and makes sense within the realm of the plot setting. While the show does have it's share of powerful individuals, it balances their abundance of power with adequate plot development. Obviously there are a few predictable tropes with regards to the comedy and the interpersonal dynamics of a guild, however, all that is done in appropriate quantities and it doesn't take your attention away from the plot.

In many respects, the show is like Nanatsu No Taizai. It doesn't have a complicated or unique story, but the way the story has been executed makes watching it fresh and entertaining. Furthermore, this show has shown to me the importance of being a man with glasses (you'll understand what I mean when you watch the show). Looking forward to munching down the second season, and while a third season seems unlikely, I guess I'll just keep enjoying the after taste after I finish watching it all.
