With moe characters, happy-go-lucky cover art and cute school uniforms, I expected Nagi no Asukara to be just another slice of life romantic school comedy. I couldn't have been more wrong. It is one of THOSE animes - that take a completely unpredictable path. The show addresses love in all its complexity and takes its time doing so - in 26 beautiful episodes. It is not just about romantic love either.

Why I liked it?
-A moving story, more emotion-invoking and thought-provoking than your average anime
-Beautiful and well done characters and character growth
-A unique underwater setting and beautiful art
-Everything from music to characters' voices is moving, well done, matches the theme of the anime/specific moments really well, and hits where it hurts the most
-It kept me on my toes wondering what I am going to experience next

If you are looking for something light-hearted/suspenseful/thrilling to watch in one sitting, however, you may want to skip this anime (at least for now). The "drama" tag describes it really well, and the plot takes its time to develop, and characters their time to grow, so a bit of patience is needed.

Personally, I found this to be a really emotional experience where I got attached to the characters, rooted for them, cried, and worried with them. It deals with love, racism, power of will, and the many conflicts of one's heart... all in a beautiful and entertaining way, and is, as such, the top anime that I have seen in the last few months.
