Not clever, but endearing.
Not shameless, but always talking dirty.
By no stretch a great anime, but still worth seeing.

Shimoneta stands at a strange crossroads in terms of tone and style.

Yes it's all about sex and it has no veil over it, yet it never crosses the line between having a dirty mind and being dirty in a perverse sense.

It's a lighthearted comedy full of crappy sex puns and lots of fap material, and that's pretty much all there is to say.

The best example of what watching Shimoneta is like can probably be summed up with the scene of Anna Nishikinomiya offering her "love" to the protagonist with a huge candid smile on her face. In the form of a glass filled with her pussy juices for him to drink...

It's ridiculously sexual and ridiculously ridiculous, but it's attached to a character who has no notion of what sexuality really is or what her feelings and bodily reactions are actually about. It's funny and sexual but not mean-spirited or perverse.

At no point does it feel like the characters desire physical relationships in the pornographic sense, they just have a sexuality they want to learn how to express.
Shimoneta is nothing but a show about how teenagers will find ways to become sexual and having lighthearted fun about it.

Do the shitty puns tire? Kinda. And the show as a whole offers very little in terms of plot or ideology, except that sex is good.

Art or sound deserves little mention too, although I liked the opening theme quite a bit and I think the art at least managed to make the girls sexy, or that they physically resembled their personalities.

But even if it is a cheap reason to talk about sex and make an endless train of crappy puns roll over the viewer, Shimoneta really gets a pass because it feels completely earnest in what it does, both with the sex talk and with the sex acts(in this anime those who talk about sex don't have sex and those who don't talk about sex are the horniest, most sexually agressive beings ever born).

For all the fucked up things Anna Nishikinomiya did, I still found her endearing more than threatening, despite the numerous rape attempts. Okuma's naivete or Saotome's obsession with drawing anything her dirty mind sees or imagines gave me the same feeling: it's stupid, but it's endearingly stupid, and overall Shimoneta was an endearing watch, if not a high quality anime.
