The story is one of those fantasy tales we have heard of in old books about the boy in the high castle learning that life isnt so easy or nice as he has thought all his life protected in the bossom of his parents. That kinda made me become a little wary since those types of stories have either one of those things. It has the most cheesiest plot ever invented to how the main character becomes turn around and becomes the rightfull ruler in his fathers eyes or just keeps behaving like a spoiled child to the end of the anime until he finally realises hes wrong. This anime fortunately didnt either one. Characters i will go back to but story wise thats just a summary that its not that bad. The story was better than i would expect with great battles and good tactics shown in the entire series. It kinda reminds me of how Game of thrones could be without needed to put sex , dragons or boobs in. It has its own style that defines it and it takes it time not pushing anything to far and it doesnt rush past what should have been. Eventhough i say all is well with it there are cheesy parts i felt like they could have made alot more brutal and could have needed some evil ish scenes.
Art/Sound both feels nice and fits with the movie the opening is a much watch even if you dont watch the anime since its that addictive.
Alas we come to characters. Yes it has it share of interesting characters and i dare tell you if anyone comes to me telling how overpowered someone is here that thats the clear definition of not having watched it. Specially the main character hes probably one of the weakest battle and skill wise i have ever seen. He follows mostly what people tells him to and he lacks any form of planning and yes this is the to be King. Not being overpowered or too strong is one thing but the only good thing this guy have going for him is his faith in everyone who walks up to him. Naivity has a name and thy name is Arslan. The rest of the characters have a more interesting variation but i give the characers 6 because some of them just doesnt feel in any way much original.
I learned to enjoy it after watching 4 episodes since before that i wanted to throw the main character down a pit and tip boulders down the pit. The battles and scenes are well made, many of the characters can be called good fitting the story but its just good for me nothing more. It doesnt have that factor alot of other anime has. It has its own feel but not so high that it deserves any higher then 7.
