When one evening I had a half an hour to kill, I had made the decision to watch Plastic Nee-san. If you find yourselves in a similar position, then I recommend you do so as well. Plastic Nee-san is a 12 episode comedy/gag anime made by Studio TYO Animations. Despite its short runtime of ~ 2 minutes per episode, Plastic Nee-san’s humor packs plenty of punch and is sure to entertain.

Story: Plastic Nee-san has no story to speak off. The premise is that of three friends hanging out at school and that they are also members of a Plastic Model Club. Each episode focuses in on a single scenario, ranging from finding a broken model, to practicing kissing, to playing tennis, and showing how our trio of main characters can turn it into a comedic train wreck.

Characters: What the characters lack in terms of growth and development, they make up for in quirkiness and likeability. Each character comes with their own quirk that gets exaggerated, often to the extremes, for the sake of comedy. Iroe Genma is the titular Nee-san, despite her much smaller stature compared to her younger sister. Nee-san is vulgar, airheaded, and is by far the most expressive of the group. Her sister Okappa is a cute and sweet girl, at least when her sister doesn’t piss her off and reveal her “deadlier” side. Makimaki is the foil to the other two girls. She is mostly there to shake her head at the ridiculousness of it all, but has plenty of her own quirky moments to help her standout. The show has plenty of characters besides those, but it’s better to just watch the show and let them speak for themselves.

Presentation: For a short, 12 episode gag series, the art and animation is about what you’d expect. Nothing will “WOW” anyone, but it does plenty to serve the purpose of making the viewer laugh. The opening theme is also nothing spectacular. It is, however, fun, energetic, and perfectly sets-up the ridiculousness of the show.

Enjoyment: For what little time I had with this show, I enjoyed it quite a bit. The fact that I wish there was more of it, is truly a testament to how much fun I had watching this anime. While the comedy won’t be up to everyone’s tastes, especially if you are put off by perverted humor and randomness, the short runtime should make it worth watching for just about anyone looking to have a good time.
