Let's beginn with with the Art and Sound. If this anime has something to go for it are this two things. Sound is amazing. Maybe I am a bit biased because I just love those EGOIST songs. Anyway. I did enjoy it.
Art as well. Lot of details and it fits the this steam punk style. What I don't like is the look of the characters. I don't know but they don't really seem to fit in. Don't get me wrong, they still look good but they don't go with the background.
How should I put it? Do you know this old cartoons from the 80-90s? You could always tell which rock etc was the rock something is going to happen with in the next shot. It just stand out. Here I do have the same feeling. Maybe make them less shiny next time.
Then story. Well I do like the idea of it. I mean if you can go with the background story of Attack on Titans you can go with this. Instead of Titans you have some kind of Zombies and people are also living behind walls. So far so good.
Now some parts which could include some SPOILERS but I try to keep it spoiler free.
The first episodes I did enjoy. Especially Miumei's first fight. It was indeed rly cool and reminded me to the 3D gear action of AoT. Also the actions the characters did, seemed reasonable.
But with episode 5/6 this changed. Here the authors probably thought normal zombies are not enough, we need something bigger. And so the black smoke is introduced.
From this point on it gets stupid and made up. It just does not feel right. In episode 5 a short glimpse at something what could be a tank turret. But it doesn't get further attention. In e6 when the crew is rescuing Miumei and Ikoma. They found this turret and somehow put it on the train off screen. Hey the train has a gun now and it is useful to destroy the shadow. How could they just cruise around with the train and install the turret when before everything was filled with Zombies? Who cares!
And stuff like this keeps happening till the end. It just feels stupid. Miumies actions kill thousands in the last episodes. But noone really cares. Oh hi Miumie, glad you are back. Your actions killed thousands? Doesn't matter you are still the cute girl.
It just feels mehhh.
And so do the characters. I gave a damn about them and I did not like them. Ok, I did somehow liked one character, but he dies. But even here I didn't really felt sad.
All in all I am giving this a 6. If it would be possible I would giving it a 6,5 but it isn't. Therefore 6 it is.
It is an OK anime to watch, but if you expect an Attack on Titan Killer like some did when this anime was introduced you will get disappointed.
