FLCL (Anime) add (All reviews)

Smoke fogs the city at dusk, affection takes form in ravenous extremes, behind every scene of the absurdist reality there's an incomprehensible amount of character development. The protagonist feels that nothing new happens in his city, it's always the ordinary but what he is referring to is a state of mind, his own in particular, complete with adolescence and looking for love to brim on every side of the flower. The girl who shares a sexual relationship with Naoto is so absorbed in her rebound relationship that she had with Naoto's brother that she herself doesn't realize. It seems that every character longs for affection whose cloistered accessibility is something they are subconciously aware of. It is also so apt that the most secure, confident and figured out character in FLCL is a robot.

The show's greatest strength lies in its extraordinary storytelling, how it delivers more by drawing character sketches betwixt humongous battles and mesmeric stirs of music. Words could be written on FLCL's style, humour, its sexual innuendoes, soundtrack, animation style, metaphorical representation, fluid editing, setting of psychadelic elements and the essay will be endless. Needless to say, Fooly Kooly has one of the greatest soundtracks. When I watched the show some three to four years ago, I was definitely intrigued by it but lately, as of now, I have figured out one of the many meanings behind this masterful work.
