Hyouka (Anime) add (All reviews)
Aug 30, 2016
'This anime finds it's strength in quirky but somewhat realistic, and alluring characters. The almost surreal-like talent the protagonist, Oreki, has for solving mysteries keeps the anime interesting and engaging. You might find yourself admiring or even envying his abilities. Many of the characters are very well developed with particularities and purposes that are real but slightly exaggerated. All characters in the anime experience emotions ranging from curiosity, guilt, remorse, jealousy, and repressed resentment. There are lots of characters that re-evaluate their own motives, purposes and actions. For instance, Oreki's best friend, Satoshi, is a very well developed and interesting character who has great inner wisdom and understanding of himself and those around him. But, although he seems mature for his age he has his weaknesses that allow for interesting dynamics between himself and Oreki. Much of the dialogue in Hyouka focuses on the agendas of the different characters and the interplay between these agendas pertaining to the mystery, or problem, to be solved.

Hyouka may be to some, a slice of life anime with sprinkles of classic mystery motifs, and it might be to others a mystery in a setting not too dissimilar to slice of life animes. For me, Hyouka is the former.' -DeeAd

+The visuals are spectacular yet simplistic, and the art style allows for development of unique character portrayals.

-The sound and audio of Hyouka is decent. It's not overreaching or exemplary but it works.

+ The character development is superb and realistic. Displaying real emotions and character motives.

-The anime doesn't have a proper conclusion. It's got a few loose ends, and thus may not feel like a completed story.
