The story holds up well and has a clear sense of direction. It's just not strong enough to support side plots or in depth backstories.
Gate has a pretty vivid color scheme that is quite nice to look at. Nothing really stands out as far as characters or animation is concerned.
Opening sounds good enough. No problems with voice lines or sound effects.
There's a lot of characters. The problem with having lots of characters is that they need a lot of time to flesh out each one. This just isn't possible in 12 episodes. I found myself liking the characters, but wanting more development and depth.
Gate performed equally well in all categories, but excelled in none. Humor and action are present but not in enough quantity to carry the show. It takes equal parts of each area to prop the show up. A conglomeration of genres and themes rather than a singular aspect to watch.
