This is not your average magic school show. The show attempts to blend magic and technology together to present a more refined take on the magic genre.

The story is centered around the Shiba siblings as they attend a magic high school. Instead of fighting monsters and making the world safe, the show focuses on the school and the activities of the school such as tournaments and internal strife. Additionally, the show is never episodic with all episodes tying into one of the three story arcs. This maybe be off putting to some viewers who prefer definitive start/stop moments or villain of the week shows.

Art is done by studio Madhouse and is very good. Magic spells are well done and flow smoothly. (I'm not a stickler for art details so there's not much to say.)

Sound is good and varied. Openings and endings are enjoyable to listen to even if they probably won't fit into a playlist. The show has transition music between scenes and various tracks for sporting events and battles. This keeps reused the assets low and adds to the overall enjoyment.

The characters are the high point of the show for me. All of the major and minor characters are given some amount of screen time. Most of this involves analyzing a recent event or a person's actions that reveals each character's perceptions and personality. This creates a wide option of characters to use in a scene without forcing them into specific situations. It has to be mentioned that the Shiba siblings are an odd couple and often flirt with incest, much to the dismay of their classmates. While never actually having a incestuous relationship, their behavior can be objectionable.

Enjoyment depends on the viewers preferences. If you enjoy desperate battles and clothing inexplicably melting from magic power; this isn't the show for you. Magic is explained and enhanced through science. Which means sometimes lengthy explanations. This slows the pace down making battles more calculated and decisive. Additionally, the siblings are incredibly OP. Overall power is something determined at birth in this series, so training montages or power growth is not present. Because of this viewers could feel unsatisfied at the lack of challenge facing the characters.

Overall, it is a very good show. It won't win points for riveting action or over the top flashy sequences, but viewers who stick around for story and characters won't be disappointed.
