Mixed Feelings
Preliminary (5/13 eps)
I will say I love the VN. The anime itself is a disappointment.

Transferring a VN's story to an anime is always very difficult. This anime is a fine example on how not to do it. Instead we are given rushed story lines, very little interaction between the characters, and lack of development between the characters.

For example: One character dies in the VN but we are given quite a lot of time before we see this. The character grows on us and the death is very emotional. The character in the anime is given.. one episode (and only about 10 - 15 mins).

No emotional build-up, no steady pacing, and lack of development makes every romantic feeling seem hollow and forced.

The animation itself is actually fairly well done. I enjoyed the character designs and overall "feel" of the show that they were trying to get across. In other words the show feels very forced and underdeveloped.

I understand what they tried to do for future seasons (Labyrinth of Grisaia and Eden of Grisaia) but boy did they flub it up big time.

Bottom Line: Is this anime good? Well to keep it standing up on an anime is fine. The anime itself has no real major flaws other than pacing issues, but knowing where the anime came from (a vastly superior trilogy of VNs) then it really falls flat.

If the anime simply spent more time on each character and was longer it could have worked, but seriously? 5 characters, 12 episodes (about 6 hours total). That common route in the VN took longer than that.
