Mixed Feelings
This anime at first glanced looked very appealing to the eye. Its about current military might clashing vs Mid evil times. It had a concept not done regularly and surely was warranted a watch.

This series at first started of strong but as the episodes went on I gradually got more and more turned off as I watched. This series suffers from wanting to be so much that it failed in mostly everything it set out to accomplish. But at least it succeeded in being good Japaneses propaganda.

Firstly, I never liked one sided series. By that I mean one side is completely more dominant than the other and its not fun seeing a series where one sided completely dominates the other in every aspect. I at least expected for the Mid-evil kingdoms to form some kind of advantage sometime. Nope! The JSDF(Japanese Self Defense Force) completely demolishes everything it comes against. It was even able to beat the red dragon(which is suppose to be the strongest creature in the other world) with only 3 jeeps and a pair of guns. The JSDF is portrayed as the ultimate fighting group that not even other countries could hope to beat, with scenes of american or Russian soldiers being completely amazed at how good the JSDF is.

Secondly, the characters. The protagonist which is not interesting in the least is given the role of an otaku just for the sake of making him relatable to the fans. This otaku is given the role of lieutenant because why not and goes off into a different world to begin forming his harem.

The rest of the cast is even weaker. Theres an elf girl which is looking for her dead father but she doesn't want to admit hes dead. This storyline goes nowhere. Theres The Demi-god loli which just drops everything shes doing to go off with the protagonist. Lastly theres a mage that starts to focus more on Science than what her master has been training her for in less than a couple of weeks. The rest of the cast is just there.

The crew the protagonist assembles are all from the other world which are all incredibly useful but somehow the protagonist in a single episodes befriends them all. These girls alone could give the JSDF a run for their money but they conveniently join sides with the Japanese which are steamrolling through their world. Logic?

Lastly the culture exchange. Thats not presented in this anime. The culture exchange is just the Mid-evil society basking in the glory of how cool and useful the japanese are.

Some of the pros? This series had some moments where some plot points where brought out which where interesting but suddenly discarded. It failed to capitalize on its strong setting and decided to insert more harem moments instead. There was one moment which i liked where the refugee camp the japanese started was solely being turned into a small town by the residents(which are the mid-evil people that lost their homes early in the anime). The Japanese where protecting and shaping this small community and it looked like a place where both worlds life together. This aspect was rarely touched.

Conclusion: This series might give you a good time if you like harem series with not much depth to it. Its an entertaining watch if not much thought is giving to it. If you where looking for a more serious anime then look away but if you where looking for some diehard army anime with explosions, One sided curbstomps and lolis then look no further.
