Critics would say that this is too similar to Attack on Titan, with humans fighting against strange creatures and live in walled cities. However, there are some important differences.

The "creatures" are just humans infected that become cannibalistic killing machines. The humans do fight against these mutants, but there is a train aspect added -- fighting on trains, using trains to ferry humans between cities, etc. The music, again Hiroyuki Sawano, is awesome as usual, and the art (Wit Studio), like that for Owari no Seraph, is bloody brilliant. The protagonist, Ikoma, is a young steamsmith who just wants to fight against these Kabaneri, and is assisted by friends and a mysterious girl with amazing fighting prowess. Like Attack on Titan, the situation seems bleak, but hope yet rises through the darkness. Can they ever hope to defeat the Kabaneri for good, and to return to a peaceful world where one can eat rice? Quite short, only 12 episodes, but again, these anime creators can stack a lot into one episode and so lots of things happen in 12 episodes. An exhilarating way to spend two or three days, it is.
