For many years now, Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann (no, I am not comparing these two, I've done that before. Message me if you're interested in that, I have a video about it) has been my favorite anime. It still is. It is over the top, extremely memorable, and entertaining fun. And I had heard from friends and random people that, since I love Gurren Lagann, I should see Kill La Kill. For a while, I avoided it. I did eventually cave in about a year ago. And when I did, I regretted not watching it sooner, because Kill La Kill is a shotgun aimed at your face, loaded with awesome.

First of all, the story. I really like this concept, it is very interesting and intriguing, and there are even further elements that make it more complex than I originally expected (again, ask me about the video). While it might not be fine art, I wouldn't say that it's worth extensive study. But, it's more complex and thought provoking than it has any right to be. And the anime stays focused, it doesn't really deviate from the plot that much. And when it does, it's still interesting.

Another strong element, the characters. One of the most important elements of a story is the characters, and arguably the most important one is the main character. So, how is Ryuko? She is kick ASS. She is just the right mix of dark and tragic with fun and exciting. She can get serious and angry, but she can also often be happy and laughing. She is short tempered but well meaning. She is our captain on this ride, and she clearly knows what she is doing. Mako, her best friend, is also fantastic. She is absolutely hilarious, one of the greatest comedic characters ever. I just loved her, she was likable, energetic, and actually helped and had purpose to the story and dynamic of our characters. Satsuki at first seemed pretty boring, but as the show continued, she won me over as a determined and intimidating, but also passionate and even well meaning character. I was happily impressed. And the Elite Four are also really fun and entertaining, all of them. And although the villain wasn't as good as she could've been in my opinion (personally I thought Nui was far stronger, because of her psychotic and unpredictable nature), she was still alright.

The animation is also pretty great. I really like the style and look of the show, it is very appealing, and it's animated well. Although, the CGI and flash animation are distracting. The CGI is okay, and the flash animation is fine, but it can help some of the jokes, which is good. The regular animation was really kick ass and exciting, and it all looked great. The action was exciting and fast paced. Completely bonkers and over the top, which is what I love to see when I watch anime.

Finally, there is a lot to say about a show that forces you to keep smiling through-out most of the running time (except for sad and dramatic parts, of course). For something to provide such high amounts of entertainment is commendable. And I love that the anime plays with so many anime tropes that I'd say it's so much better to watch it after seeing a lot of other anime (although it is still very enjoyable to watch as a first time anime).

While by no means fine art or even necessarily too groundbreaking, Kill La Kill is a rush of excitement. It's every drug mixed together without the awful side effects. So hold out your arm and get ready for one crazy trip.
