Mixed Feelings
I came in with quite high hopes but left a little bit disappointed. No spoiler review.
Here is what I liked:
- The world and setting. The feudal Japan mixed in with the threat of the kabanes was very interesting.
- The Animation. Very nice to watch and every frame had something going on in it: good on the eyes.
- The story was good as well, with a mostly unexpected twist at the end.
- The ending was satisfying although i do have my gripes with it.
- I loved some of the less important characters. I really liked the relationship between kurusu and ayame as it ended up giving a comedic touch to the series. I wish they had given more development to the rest of the crew, especially the english-japanese speaking mechanic who i don't even remember the name of due to lack of character development. But whatever I understand they only had 12 episodes.
Here is what i disliked:
- Ikoma's voice got on my nerves especially when he's screaming and it cracks up. I get that it is fitting but this being my review and all.... goddamn.
- I felt like the characters were cliche, mumei in particular. The relationship between mumei and ikoma and how it unfolded was quite predictable and nothing new which is a big no no from me considering it is a focal point in the whole series.
- SPOLIER ALERT
I know i said this was a spoiler-free review but I have to in order to get my point across here.
So I KNEW Ikoma wasnt going to die the moment he was thrown off the train and I KNEW he wasnt going to die at the end the moment he went through his whole transformation thing. Therefore, the fact that, despite what he was sure of, Ikoma survived after all was not surprising to me. However, the fact that Biba saved him was an interesting and unexpected twist so I'll give them that.
