Do you know the kind of anime that leaves you with heavy heart and mind full of questions and wondering? That is exactly Byousoku 5 Centimeter.

The movie is split into three episodes, which follow live of Toono Takaki, a boy, an adolescent and a young man.
When I started watching the first episode i was like:"I know where this is going". And I knew (until the end of episode one it is). It started like very other romance anime, two characters together from young age. But it started to feel strange after few minutes. The atmosphere was thick and full of emotion that i could not identify (I can now, looking back). It was even purposely enhanced by dark tone of colors used, with huge stress on detail of surrounding (not the characters themselves though, those were grade lover in design) in a truly beautiful artwork.

With come and end of episode two I was not able to tell what is gonna happen anymore. The atmosphere was as thick at before, but it had different feeling to it. It kept the flow fresh and story still amusing. Although it felt like filler at the time, I now get why it was there. I find it interesting how is this anime able to really hit you only after you watch it whole, but still keeps you amused even when going through it.

I can't really tell much about episode three without giving stuff away, but i can say that this is like the one last huge colorful bang at the end of firework with all that it takes and all it gives.

And moral of the story? It doesn't matter if things are getting away from you at the speed of five centimeters fer second or five kilometers per hour.
