This review contains some spoilers...

To be honest, I had high hopes for this anime. I mean, the plot gave off a Death Note vibe so I was really looking forward to all the psychological battles and witty interaction. But boy, was I dissapointed.

The anime handles the most disgusting prospects of horror VERY poorly: from child rape, to sex between 14-year olds, to gay relationships between fourteen year olds, to death matches between 3 year olds and 14 year olds and everything else lewd concerning 14 year olds. This could have been a great aspect of the show to give it a horror vibe but 75% of the show is so downright comical that you can't even take things seriously. There are zombies, mask freak caling himself a hero of justice, a bombproof serial killer (wtf?), a solo "international" terrorist in her early 20s, a child psychopath, and whatnot. Seriously, the plot is so full of plotholes, lazy writing, absurd plot twist, and stupid scenes followed by stupid character decisions that it makes you double-check what the genre of the show is. Also, under the pretext of trying to be a seinen anime, the anime tries to offer me the boobs of 14-year olds as fan service consistently throughout the series. There is a scene where the female protagonist Yuno Gasai pees in a room, for no apparent reason than to make the viewer feel those moments as being "deep" and "psychological" And thats only one of those instances. The plot is fairy stable at first, but towards the end it gets so convoluted and made-up, it almost turns into a fairy tale.

The characters are the worst part of the entire series, possibly the worst in anime history. There's this wimp called Yukiteru Amane that we have the misfortune of having to call our main protagonist, who never develops throughout the entire series. The bastard is so inconsistent in his actions that it will make you cringe and question if he has a dual personality or something. And let me tell you, the wimp doesn't mind kissing and banging a psychotic serial killer in one one moment while despising and doubting her the next. There is an instance where he tries to make friends with a girl who straight-up tried to murder him literally a minute ago. Seriously, what the hell? Undoubtedly the worst written character in anime history.
Then comes the yandere bitch known as Yuno Gasai who has no real personality or reason. One moment she goes all out for protecting "Yukki"*head bursts* and the next she is trying to kill him herself. What the actual F*CK?!. She is only there to provide for some gore and entertainment, other than that she is the most annoying yandere ever.
The rest of the characters are almost all pathetic, save for two of my personal favorites: Uryu Minene and Aru Akise who become plot devices near the end of the series.
The series also tries to make the viewers sympathize with the serial killers and psychopaths by putting up some bullshit backstory that doesn't nearly justify their course of action. There are diary holders so twisted you will wonder if Deus is a god of idocracy to even chose them as his successors. He is a worthless god who has no regard for humanity. What a jerk.

The soundtrack is mostly good and fits well with the scenes of the show, and I have to say the first opening is really good. The second opening as well as the endings were good enough.
The art looks good in some instances but during action scenes it looks abslutely mediocre. The characters when thry run look like they are running on a treadmill. And sometimes the character proportions look so out of place they look like wax figures melting. However there WERE moments where the art was fun to watch.

The series was one which was filled to the brim with potential for a good watch, but it ends up downright lame and forced. The characters are dumb as fuck, and the battles are often a total letdown. The supposed "successors" are so psychotic and senseless, they'd straight-up kill all humans if they ever became God. The show also implies that God can't revive a dead person with the same soul for some reasons. I mean...God? The handler of the entire Universe??
Overall, I believe the show would have been fairly enjoyable because it handles some aspects of seinen quite well but ended ended up being a mediocre clusterf*ck of nosensical writing and direction.
