Well the second season of Shokugeki no Soma is airing, so I thought it would be appropriate to write a spoiler-free review for those who are thinking about getting into this anime.

Story: 7/10
- The story here is nothing new, you have the MC that tries to become the best in his profession (which in this scenario is cooking), and on the way he motivates people. Soma, the main character, goes to a culinary school for prestige teen chefs, but since his family doesn´t run a international restaurant chain, nor a restaurant that is famous,so the other pupil think of him as poor. He tries to prove them wrong. Sometimes the story falls too much on the culinary side, and since I´m not a chef I got lost a few times. It is a story that lacks any deeper meaning, but is sufficient.

Art and Animation: 8/10
-What can I say about the art and animation of this show that I couldn't´t say about most newer anime. I never was one to care about the visuals, but I do care about the animations, and in this show they are quite good. Since it´s a culinary show the animation must be fast, detailed and smooth to capture the details of the cooking. And it does it well.

Sound: 6/10
-I didn´t really feel the opening on this show to be amazing, so most of the time I skipped it. The music during the show provided some help during boring moments, but it was never astounding. I haven´t really noticed the OST that much while watching. It felt some touches during the cook-offs that really helped build the hype. Otherwise it was good, but nothing game-changing.

Characters: 9/10
-Why should I watch a culinary show? I asked myself the same question before getting in this show, and I think I personally found the answer in the characters. Sometimes I won´t watch a anime series because I don´t like the MC, but in this show I think he was amazing. Having that Naruto ´Believe it´ feel to him, but much cooler. I don´t think this show had a arch-nemesis, mostly when a character seemed evil they eventually turn good after about 1 episode. A lot of supporting characters with their own sets of culinary skills, backstories, and characters tied to them had me sitting all day watching this show. Although I feel some characters should have more screen time.

Enjoyment: 8/10
- I was surprised when a culinary show could keep my attention for 24 episodes. The clever writing and attention to detail makes you want to repeat a scene just to grasp the full story. The tastings of the foods were spiced up by some ecchi scenes, which were sometimes unnecessary. And while the first half had nearly no boring parts, the second half, especially towards the end, I felt that they speaking too much about food for my enjoyment (I mean I don´t really need to know the history of some French food, do I).

Overall Rating: 8/10
- I would recommend this to anybody that likes shows with great characters and some humor. I wouldn´t call it a masterpiece because it has a few problems, but neither would I call it a bad show. Why? It simple was too much fun for that, I have watched the entire season 1 in one day. If you don´t want some deep story, and you just want to have some goofs and gafs this show is for you.
